Spot On Book Page Design

One of the local printers, Custom Printers, is creating a book of work from designers and design firms in the Grand Rapids area. Anyone could submit a page design with the them being "Spot On". Below is the page layout I created. The concept and theme of my design is finding the solution to the problem and trying to show this feeling of data, research, and accuracy to come to the final "spot on" solution. I can't wait to see how it turns out!

GFT Trip Invitation

Awhile back, at my previous employment, another designer and myself were asked to create a promotional piece to promote a hypothetical trip for the marketing department. I chose to design an invitation and since the company is global, the theme I came up with was "away we go". I created different styled postcards, postage stamps, and a luggage tag. Each postcard gave details about the event, either a who/why, where, or when. I think this is a great example of how different papers can really play such a huge roll in design. I really enjoy creating cut-paper projects like this and my movie poster design and hope to be able to do more work like this in the future.

Those Eighty Acres

Recently myself and a few other designers/friends have started our own little design collective called Parlour. We don't have a website or anything up yet, but our first real client is for a local band called Those Eighty Acres. Below are some poster designs I created for them and they all seem to be pretty smitten with their new look. Hopefully we can get them screen printed on French Paper! Our group is considering purchasing a Yudu screen printer. It looks like it would work similar to my Gocco printer, which I love, but we'll see. Can't wait to do more work for them.

2010 Local Addy Awards

This year I was asked to design the materials for the 2010 Local Addy Awards. The theme was "Rock Your Addy Off". A few concepts were shown but below is the one that was chosen. From these mood boards I created a Call For Entries Mailer, Invitation, Billboards, Announcement Emails, and Award Certificates. Hope to see everyone on February 25th for the event!

Ad Campaign

Below is an ad campaign my co-worker Nicole La Fave and I came up with while working at GFT. It was never approved but I think it could of been a really great way to quickly get across the message with a nice typographic heading and then using the currency patterns to give the reader a visual reference to the fact our industry is forex trading.

Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo Movie Poster

Designer-Daily is hosting a movie poster design contest for the film Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo. The movie looks very interesting and something I will definitely be going to see. Below is the concept I submitted. I handcut, folded, and spray painted the type and then pinned it into a shadow box so that it has the bug collection look and feel in a more modern way. The winners have been posted and are worth a look.

I entered a Typographic Website Template Contest on Smashing Magazine's website and have been featured. I am the 9th template down. I didn't win anything but just being on their website is a huge honor to me. I worked with Adam Reece to make the site template functional. He is a great web developer. I hope you enjoy my template!

Brian Walker is a contemporary digital artist who has some really creative and amazing work. I especially like the first image because I am a big horror movie fan and it definitely is referring to one of my all time favorites, Evil Dead.
